Ajmal Amir Kasab speaking…

July 3, 2009 Raman Leave a comment

Salaam-Alei-Kum, this is Ajmal Amir Kasab speaking.

When they recruited me in the Lashkar-e-Taiba, they told me about how badly Muslims were treated in India – they told me about one Mohammad Azharuddin, who was subjected to the cruelty of being the longest captain of the Indian cricket team – in a period when apart from a hero cup or Asia cup, they didn’t win many tournaments. How cruel! That would have happened with only Muslims – the LeT told me that Tendulkar, because he was an Hindu, was spared that misery.

LeT also told me about Salman, Shah Rukh & Aamir – they are being hassled by the media so much! See how Hindu stars are spared by the media. Very bad discrimination.

So with one APJ Abdul Kalam – he was made a President to torture him! Imagine all the stupid people around him that he had to tolerate – they might as well have exiled him.

So, on hearing such discrimination, I decided I’ll attack India. And when LeT told me I’ll go to Jannat, I thought they were either joking or they meant that I get to see that serial kisser’s movie.

But really, this is Jannat!

When I was in my village in Pakistan, all I got was justifiable abuse from my father for being useless & hunger. Now, I get good, clean clothes everyday. I have a barber who attends to me where I stay. I get newspapers & quality food (people actually taste it before they give it to me, just to ensure the salt is correct). And I have more security than probably the President or Prime Minister of India. I heard that they have even adjusted the traffic around the area I live, just for my peace. I spend my valuable time usefully by lying down and dreading about a day when I might have to give up this Jannat. I also recollect with satisfaction about how diligent & efficient I was in my job – I killed well, yeah.

People wonder why I smile so much in court – how stupid? People work hard all through their life and still get ripped off by Financial Houses, Hospitals or the Government itself. After so much, people still go hungry or sleep on pavements (where they risk being killed by a car more than malaria). Given the good life I am living, I’ll obviously smile. Do they know that if LeT even suspects a member to be a traitor, they execute them immediately? And here I am – they have video taped evidence against me, photographs and hundreds of people who saw me doing my job. And they still want to continue what they call a “path-breaking legal process”. Call me a pioneer or visionary for the idea.

You know, this is what gives me most satisfaction – that I have become an entrepreneur who has created so many jobs. What would all these Judges, Lawyers, Journalists, Politicians, Jailers, Cops & Thinkers be doing if I hadn’t happened? They’d have been jobless I guess. And just because one case won’t suffice, I also gave them a second one - I knowingly entered the platform of the railway station where I murdered about 70 people without a platform ticket – just to create more employment. So there you go – am actually more good to India than most average Indians.

Well, that brings me to the conclusion of this essay – a collection of these can published (generate more jobs) at a later date as a memoir – publishers can contact the HO of international terrorism in Islamabad to buy the rights – just talk to one Asif Ali Zardari, he’ll ask for 10%, but once you give that, he’ll take care of the rest. What’s more, he’ll have many more memoirs to publish – a guy with lots of “contacts” in the terror world.

Will they give me a Bharat Ratna? Or will it be a Padma Vibhushan? Or a Param Vir Chakra (don’t tell me it is only for battle scarred soldiers, I am a soldier, a fidayeen - killed a cop before I was arrested)? I just hope they do it while am alive – because if they award it posthumously, I won’t be able to generate more jobs – you know, the TV Interviews & inspirational talks about my journey.

Hmmm…Lot’s to think about…Chalo, Khuda Haafiz.

May 28, 2009 Raman 2 comments

My favourite 15 songs…

April 6, 2009 Raman 4 comments

Again, saw these on Ruhi’s blog & have been listening to all my collections just so that I can fix on 15 songs (10 is too tight a number for me)that really bring that smile on my face & contentment to my heart. I couldn’t bring myself to rank these in any order – they are all number ones for me. And this one is just my list of Hindi songs, other will come soon(er or later) :)

Aayiyeh Meherbaan from Howrah Bridge (1958) - The baap of item numbers with the enchantingly beautiful Madhubala setting hearts on fire with her eyes and seductive movements. Bewitchingly beautiful. If you go to sleep after watching this one, you’ll find that beautiful voice of Asha Bhosle haunting you in your dreams.

Actor, Singer, Musician, Dancer, Choreographer, Lyricist…There seemed like there is no end to what all Kishore Kumar could do. Genius personified and blessed with so much talent that even gods would have been jealous. I should do a Kishore Kumar Top 10 later but for now, I choose this one. Mere Bhole Balam from the movie Padosan (1968) is a great song. Kishoreda has not only sung this one well, but has also proved his versatality as an actor (with betel juice dribbling from his mouth) and dancer (the boat step is funny and difficult at the same time. Fantastic song in a fantastic movie.

Khoya Khoya Chand from the movie Kala Bazaar (1960) is an eternal favourite. I just imagine a pristine beauty clad in white, sitting across you on a full moon night and it can’t get more romantic. Amazing voice modulation by Mohammad Rafi saab and lyrics from Shailendra (never given his due). Beautiful Song.

Once again, Mohammad Rafi rules in the song Main Zindagi ka Saath Nibhatha Chala Gaya in the movie Hum Dono (1961). Such high philosophies of life in such lucid and simple words can be attricuted to Sahir Ludhiyanvi saab’s fantastic touch. Simply Divine.

This one is like a rose in a desert. Suddenly in Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi (2005), a litrally unknown guy called Swanand kirkire wrote & sung a beautiful song called Bavraa Mann. The movie in itself is explosive and the song adds volumes of depth to the movie. Once again, fantastic lyrics and beautiful intonation. A true desert rose.

Of course, A. R. Rahman is there. There are innumerable songs that I can choose of Rahman’s but I choose Pudhu Vellai Mazhai from Roja (1993). Fantastic camera work combined with a beautiful tune and some lovely singing makes this an evergreen beauty. Sometime later, I’d like to do an A. R. Rahman Top 10, but for now, this is the one that I choose.

The Grandeur. The Artwork. The Histrionics. The Expressions. The Splendour. The song Pyaar Kiya tho Darna Kya from the movie Mughal-E-Azam (1960), sung by Lata Mangeshkar has inspired lovers for decades now. Once again, the eternal beauty of Madhubala & the handsomeness of Dilip Kumar carries the song well. But the real master at work was Naushad saab with some path breaking music that would inspire a generation. Not to forget the contribution of K. Asif, the Director.

I’ve always loved Kumar Sanu’s voice and his spate of songs during the 1990 to 200 decade. Aashiqui, 1942 – A Love Story, Baazigar, Barsaat, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge are all a part of my staple diet. But this one, where he veered from his normal to introduce me to the world of candy floss love and pop, is somehow very close to my heart, thoug I can’t find reasons for it.

Ae Lo Ji Sanam from the movie Andaz Apna Apna was like a whiff fresh air when songs were becoming too repetitive. A blockbuster of a movie, Andaz Apna Apna is a milestone in Hindi Movie Industry. Fantastic story, acting, screenplay, dialogues and music ensured that the expectations were set pretty high and I pick this song from the album because it was sung by two absolute new comers who pretty much disappeared post this movie. Behroze Chatterjee, Vicky Mehta were the singers. A fun-filled love song that makes you tap your feet. Go ahead and enjoy.

There would hardly be anyone who does not like Tujse Naraaz nahi from Masoom (1983). The song is beautiful not only in its context in the movie, but also because its lyrics are really really beautiful. I just love this one. It has also been rendered in a very soulful manner by once again, not someone from the main stream, Anup Ghoshal.

Teri Bindiya Re from the movie Abhimaan (1973) is a one of those numbers that’ll make you forget where you are and let you float in the beautiful world of music. The album is a powerhouse with songs like Meet Na Mila Re Mann Ka, Loote Koi Mann & Tere Mere Milan Ki Ye Raina and I choose Teri Bindiya Re only as an indicator. The entire album is a must have for everyone. Kudos to Mohammad Rafi & Lata Mangeshkar.

Another suprisingly under-rated song whose lyrics are super-powerful. In Kay Kay’s best effort till date he proves his versatality as a singer and cathes your heart with his husky voice. Listen to this when you are (if you are) a couple of pegs down. Teh song is Maine Dil Se Kaha from the movie Rog (2004).

Chingaari Koi Bhadke from the movie Amar Prem (1971) has some soul stirring lyrics written by Anand Bakshi and rendered as if Kishoreda was singing this for real. There are lots of good songs in the Rajesh Khanna – Sharmila Tagore combine but this one rates right at the top of all. Once again, not a song to listen to when you are sober. The visualization is also breathtaking, set against the backdrop of the Hoogly river & bridge, often symbolized with the sufferings of Indian masses.

After such heavyweight songs, may be I shouldn’t include this. But I love this song and I thought I should include this because of it’s inherent quality, even if it is uncompetitive against the rest of the list. Once again, Kay Kay shines in his version of the song Awarapan Banjarapan from the movie Jism (2003). The lyrics cannot be called exemplery or the music extraordinary. But the way the song has been sung, lets loose your imagination. Picturization is a also a handicap for this one, so I would recommed listening to the song without watching the video.

I would end the list with Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si from the movie Chalthi Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) sung by Kishore Kumar once again. Once again, a powerhouse of an album with superb contributions from the likes of Manna Dey, Asha Bhosle & Kishore da, all the songs of the movie are simply lovable. I am listing this one because it has a hint of everything – Naughtiness, Romance, Thrill & Intrigue. Enjoy this one.

Axinia’s Tag – The Expansionist Meme…

March 13, 2009 Raman 2 comments

Very few people visit my blog and even fewer tag me. God knows how I missed this one from Axinia. So here goes: Apologies, Axinia, but I really do plead not guilty.

One religious work from a non-familiar tradition you’ll read: I’d love to read more about Buddhism & Islam. Something tells me that these two, along with Hinduism will influence the world greatly in this century.

One music video-that you like-from your “least likely to listen to’ genre: Mission Impossible OST by Metallica. Otherwise, I just cannot handle high volume stuff.

A book from a genre you almost never read, that you have read, or you will read (promise!): The Chicken-Soup Series: No idea why & how they sell, but a lot of people seem to be reading those.

Somewhere you’d never thought to go on holiday/vacation, and why it might be fun to go there? The Himalayas. The purity and power of that land is such that it can help you realize your true purpose. If nothing else, the weather is always great and the scenery is awe-inspiring.

A specific food you’ve never tried, but will because of this meme, honest!: Chinese. Haven’t eaten Chinese stuff apart from those Mixed Rice & Noodles variety. A main problem is I hate eating in joints that also make Non-Vegetarian Food. And a lot of Chinese joints qualify under that.

A sport or game you really hate, or haven’t tried yet, but are willing to give one more go: Chess. I have an inferiority complex when it comes to chess.

A style of dance you probably won’t try (we won’t make you promise on this one): I just can’t dance. A lot of it is due to the fear of ridicule, but I just can’t get myself to dance ever. Not even when I am alone.

A career job you don’t feel you’re suited for, and why: Anything that required me to do my job with my mouth shut and not come up with ideas. I am so not the “regular” or “dream” employee.

An item that’s “thinking out of the box’ for this meme that hadn’t been included: How to exercise to be fit. I dream of getting up early, going for that 4 mile jog and completing a routine but it takes me about an hour to convince myself out of

If there’s one thing in life you wanted to do, and will do because of this meme, what will it be? May be, out of sheer embarrassment, I’ll exercise.

The Train…

March 12, 2009 Raman 2 comments

The Train is an amazing thing. It just keeps chugging along, all the time. Nothing & No one can stop it. There is no starting point or if there is, I cannot see it. So it is with the end. It just keeps chugging along, at a great speed all the time. The only way you stop is by getting off the Train. The Train will never stop. I have always felt that the Train always goes towards the west. And to me, my left side is always west or north & my right side always east or south. Silly me.

The Train

The Train always has a window. A window that shows the world in its best or at its worst. People in the pink of their health or yellow with illness. It shows how the poor live and how the rich live. It shows how money is earned and how it is spent. It shows what is silence and what are sounds. It shows colours, scents and sounds that are beyond a thousand words. It shows the very essence of life and living and the dead and the no so alive. The window, by itself is the world. For nothing that you cannot see through the window, exists. That window is the world.

The Train always has two seats – one on either side of the window. Irrelevant of the seat that you choose, you will always look at the opposite direction. And because it is such a strain to look at the other side, we always look at what is in front of us.

Some sit on the right (pun intended) side and tend to keep looking into the future. Of the lands and scenes that the people sitting in the left side haven’t scene. They are privy to the future. The know what is coming and they know that others may not know what is coming. That makes them feel powerful. They have no idea of the past.

Some sit on the left side and get to look only into the past. The past may be happy or it may be very sad. It may tell them the stories of how weel they lived or it may ask them how did they manage to live. They have no idea what the future holds for them. All they understand is the past. And they are rendered helpless by the fact that they cannot do anything about their past.

But neither of these get to look at the present. Present is something that we all miss. The people on the right side think they have all the answers because the know the present beforehand. The people on the left do not consider the present that important because they anyways know how it would look in the past.

This picture is very important to me because it gives me a look into the present. it tells me that present is the most important and keeps reminding me to look at the world with only the present in consideration.
